In 1904 the Hammersmith Board of Guardians opened a Receiving Home for Children and various offices on a site in Goldhawk and Cathnor Roads, Hammersmith. In 1936 the premises at 206 Goldhawk Road were taken over by the London County Council as Stamford House Remand Home.

The home was rebuilt in the 1960s and opened in 1968 as a Remand Home and Classifying Centre for boys, later becoming a regional Secure Unit run by the Hammersmith and Fulham Council. It was rebuilt again in the late 1990s and reopened in January 1999, finally closing in 2004.
