DescriptionRecords of Fulham Palace Meadow Allotments Association including minute books, printed rule book and constitution and tenancy agreement for allotment

On 5 March 1918 Fulham Borough Council took possession of Fulham Palace Meadow under the Cultivation of Land Order 1917 (No 2) for use by the public as allotments. The meadow was apportioned into about 400 allotments and let to Fulham residents. In 1919 the Bishop of London, at the request of the allotment holders, requested that the Council transfer to him, as landlord, the letting of the meadow. The Council consented, subject to the bishop agreeing to continue the allotments for a period of at least two years after the end of the war (ref: Fulham Borough Council Minutes 26 November 1919).

The incumbent Bishop of London became President of the Fulham Palace Meadows Allotment Association and attended the annual general meetings until 1972. Bishop Stopford relinquished the presidency on his retirement in 1973. Fulham Palace and grounds were then leased by the Church Commissioners to the London Borough of Hammersmith
