Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be a member of Hammersmith & Fulham Library Service to view Local Studies and Archives records?
No, everyone is welcome to use the service free of charge although there are charges for copies of material. If you wish to look at original records you will need to give us at least one week's notice. Requests must be made by 5pm on a Tuesday for the following Monday and Tuesday.

Most Local Studies material is on open access. If possible please provide at least a day's notice for items from our photograph collection.

Can I request archive material over the telephone or by email?
Yes as long as you give us one week's notice as per above.

Am I allowed to photocopy or photograph archives?
Local studies books, newspaper cuttings and maps may be photocopied (subject to copyright restrictions).

Photographs and archives may be photographed, for personal research only, by purchasing a photographic day permit for £5.00. You will be required to sign a copyright declaration form.

If I am unable to visit Hammersmith & Fulham Local Studies & Archives in person, what other choices do I have?
If material is suitable for copying we can copy it on your behalf, subject to copyright restrictions and the appropriate fee being paid.
