DescriptionMarion Helena Stephenson bequeathed Kelmscott House to the William Morris Society. She expressed the wish that the house should become a museum to William Morris, open to the public. When the Society proposed to grant a fifty year lease of the property, excluding the basement and coach house, for use as a private residence the Greater London Council made a compulsory purchase order. After a public local inquiry, held on 17 July 1984, this order was not confirmed
