| Description | Letter from Arthur Hacker, 178 Cromwell Road, SW5 to Sir William Bull
Thinks the 'men in authority at the Tate' with their liking for modern work, may consider Mr Hayes' pictures to be too much of the old school. However has advised Mr Hayes to submit 3 or 4 of the smaller pictures and prefers the studies direct from nature. Enjoyed the visit to Chiswick house where Doctor Luke showed him round. Regarding the historical picture for the Houses of Parliament, would prefer to execute a portrait group of 'The War Cabinet' which would be invaluable for the future. Does Sir William Bull know of anyone interested in presenting such a picture- it would be better to record the real men of the present rather than figures of the past |
