| Description | Letter from D Bevan, 31 Girdlers Road to Sir William Bull
Encloses the "old seals and parchments" and various books which he acquired from an old lady in Caithness Road. She was a daughter of a Mr Palmer who lived over the "old Rolls Chapel" and was occupied in "entering particulars of applications for "patents" (further details given). Is now attending a Mr Hone whose job used to be searching the old rolls at the public Record Office for genealogists, historical enquirers, etc. Through this he came into contact with Cardinal Gasquet (author of treatise on monastic buildings of England). Hone said that he had been assisted by Palmer's "indexes or calendars", of which there were hundreds. Palmer had access to records at the Rolls Chapel, the Tower, and Westminster. He may have forgotten to return some and it is these which have come into Sir William Bull's hands. Palmer was in the Inns of Court Volunteers |
