| Description | Copy letter from [Sir William Bull] to Mrs Melvill, Lanarth, Clarendon Road, Bournemouth
There has been a legend of many years, but no records, that Lieutenant Melvill went to the Godolphian [sic] school. At that time it was the only school for the professional classes in the area, but was later closed because St Paul's School moved to Hammersmith and Latymer Upper School started, and most boys went to these schools. Is at present chairman of the governors of Godolphin School which is now for girls. Will see if any boys of the Godolphin School have evidence that Lieutenant Melvill was at the school. Wishes to commemorate Lieutenant Melvill with a plaque in 'our cloisters' similar to that commemorating Doctor Jameson who was definately at the school |
