Description | Twenty letters from John Bult the younger to his parents
The early letters were written from his schools, first at an establishment in Palace Street, Pimlico, kept by Mr and Mrs Duncan, then at Brook Green, at the establishment kept by Messrs Searle and Standen. Several letters are written in French; the Lord's Prayer and the beginning of the Gospel of St John were written in Latin, as samples of his learning.
His later letters reveal him as naive, but deeply religious, and aware of his shortcomings, and affectionate towards his family.
In a letter dated August 31st 1812 he described incidents in the celebration of Wellington's victory [at Salamanca] which he saw in Oxford Street, and St. James's Street. He also describes visits to Brighton and Claremont |
