Description | Letter from James Pepper, Bexhill to Mr [Samuel] Bult, Hornsey Lane, Highgate, London
Describes the damage caused in their locality by a great wind on 29 November. Mother is weaker and only leaves her bed while it is being made; he himself is better except for suffering from what Mr Watts has diagnosed as dropsy but says that it is not serious. Wet weather has prevented many farmers from finishing their wheat sowing and prices have therefore risen from the £8 10s per load of ten sacks obtained before harvest to £15 or £16 per load. The harvest has only been finished a few weeks because of the weather; when John Cruttenden had the farm they used to finish by 14 August |
