TitlePersonal and Legal Papers of John Dorville
DescriptionNaturalisation and legal case

Two cases were brought against John Dorville concerning his acquisition of the Ravenscourt estate. One in Chancery was brought by John Purdue; on his death John Den brought a case in Kings Bench for trespass and ejectement.

Purdue alleged that on 29-30 June 1759 Henry Dagge, then of Middle Temple, esquire, now resident in France, purchased
the manor house and estate of Paddingswick otherwise Pallenwick, now called Ravens Court, in trust for Sir John Strachan, formerly of Milton Abbas, Dorset, baronet, who paid the purchase money. Strachan died intestate in 1760 and Dagge subsequently married Dame Jane Strachan, his widow. On 8-9 January 1765 Dagge and his wife sold the estate to John Dorville, in breach of trust
