Description | Log Book for the Infants School
Begins 29 January 1872 with arrival of Katherine Keenan to take charge of the School; 46 children were present that day. Along with the usual school log book entries are the following:
21 November 1877 - "A holiday given on account of the Marriage of the Duke of Norfolk" 22 January 1894 - "the children were transferred to the new school building" 18 July 1894 - "The Sister of the Sacred Heart are giving dinner tomorrow 19th to all the infants of this Department, and have frequently provided dinners and clothes for the most needy" 8 May 1896 - "We were obliged to give a half-holiday yesterday afternoon on account of the great concourse of people gathered together for the laying of the foundation stone of the new Town Hall building close by" 17 September 1900 - "Some of the children have not yet returned to school as they have gone 'hopping'" Lists of object lessons etc can be found at regular intervals, e.g. on pages 85-86, 202, 219-220, 237-238 and 290 A list of school staff in 1894 is given on p.185: Teresa Mary Richardson, Clara Foskett, Kate Nolan and Ellen Crowley Details of school accommodation dimensions are given at the back |
