TitleEvacuation and War
DescriptionOn the outbreak of war the school was evacuated to Oxford and teaching continued in Milham Ford School. The school
buildings in Wood Lane were requisitioned for use by the Office of Works and air raid trenches were constructed in the playing fields. In November 1940 the Londoners' Meals Service took over the kitchens and dining hall as a public feeding centre until April 1945. Emergency classes for children who had returned to London began at Burlington School, Wood Lane, in March 1940, for girls of 14 years and under. Older girls were to attend the emergency school at Munster Road, Fulham.

Up to the end of July 1943 Burlington School continued to be divided between Oxford and Hammersmith. From September 1943 Burlington School ceased to exist as a separate unit in Oxford and the few Burlington pupils who remained were amalgamated into Milham Ford School. The full school reopened in Wood Lane in September 1943. There was some damage to the buildings by flying bombs in June 1944.

The headmistress, Miss M A Burgess, maintained a file of circulars and correspondence labelled "Evacuation: Oxford and London." The original arrangement of the file has been retained
